Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS) is a rapidly growing charity that aims to widen access to education in Africa by founding and developing sustainable, low-fee secondary schools. PEAS' current work focuses on Uganda, where the government's recent provision of Universal Primary Education (UPE) is at risk of being undermined by a huge shortfall of affordable quality places at secondary level.
PEAS is a dynamic and hugely commendable organisation and this was recognised when they were shortlisted for the Guardian Newspaper's 'Charity of the Year' Award in 2008.
Each team who sign up is required to raise £750 on top of a £100 deposit. This may seem like a lot, but spread over seven or eight months it really won't be too hard.
Collectively the first rally members have the opportunity to make an enormous and sustainable impact to a Ugandan community. If all goes to plan we will raise £60,000 towards the costs of building a new school. To recognise this, we are asking rally members to engrave or decorate a plaque to hang on the walls of the school we hope to build, a permanent reminder of the difference you made.
In some ways this rally doesn't cost you a thing. Yes, there will be fundraising and personal costs. However, 100% of the money you make is going to PEAS and into increasing access to secondary education.
